Laura is an undergraduate student currently living and working in Kansas City. They are working towards their BFA in Fiber from the Kansas City Art Institute. They grew up being close with their grandfather and father, who both instilled a love of the outdoors and science in them. Their grandfather passed away in 2019 and their father passed away in 2023. It is important to them to share their love of nature and help instill it in others through creating artwork.Â
Laura's work is based in nature, the body, the world, and the intertwined network of all things. It is their goal to help others connect with themselves and others through creating tactile and thought-provoking abstract artwork. Fiber has been the perfect medium to explore their interest in culture, history, and craft and how those relate to nature and humans. Part of their work is also directly dealing with the consequences of capitalism and helping bring awareness of, and preserving the nature that we still have. Connections mirrored on different scales are important to their work as well, and they often illuminate the unseen and unconsidered through their work.
